National electric connection rate is only around 25% and it’s even lower in most rural areas. And the poor efficiency of country’s power generation and T&D system makes the situation worse. Over the past few years, the per capita electricity consumption of Myanmar kept among the lowest in Southeast Asia. Lack of technology and investment is the main cause of Myanmar’s power poverty, but it has rich resources in hydro and fossil – natural gas, oil and coal, which makes Myanmar’s power sector one of best investment destination for international investors.
